Message Because really, I don't want to believe that people are really becoming dumber and dumber but it seems to be the case. Never before have so many people so adamantly stood in the face of logic when it came to decisions. Or maybe they are just more vocal now? Maybe it's the trend? It's probably a combination of the younger audience, more vocal members (internet savvy people has inceased 10 fold in the last four years) and the bittering of the veteran members. After 5+ years of answering questions and helping people we have to deal with things like:

XXX product is cheaply made, has been shown to break and actually slows down the car - "Hey, I'm going to install it anyway!"

XXX company has had YYY complaints for years - "Hey, I'm going to take my Z there anyway!"

XXX hood is actually heavier than stock, fits like garbage and costs $1,000 to buy/paint/install - "Hey, I'm going to put it on anyway!"

It's this kind of stuff that infuriates the longtime members here and rightfully so I think. I can 100% agree that some of us do not handle it properly and the image posting/chastizing goes overboard a lot of the time. However, I still think it's the lesser of two evils. Unfortunately, I don't think you can really 100% change how people see and react to the forum responses. I've long had the notion that General should either be closed down or completely pruned nightly. Or something. The Technical/Faq/Links/Classifieds section is what really made this site and we used to be pretty hardcore about it being ONLY about Z related things. As that has been relaxed, we've paid the price and while we shouldn't have to limit every single discussion to Z related things, I'd much rather have a strict, functioning 300ZX website than no website at all.

The one thing that TT.net always had going for it is this: Without a doubt, TT.net offers someone with a technical question the highest chance at an accurate and well-informed answer compared to ANY other Z site out there. In fact, it's far above most automotive enthusiasts sites in my opinion (as I browse many). We may have a fair amount of bitter-sounding veterans but what else can we do? If we start ignoring the utter garbage that gets posted here, at what point do we get overrun with it? I cringe more at the atrocities I see done to Zs than I do the bickering and eventually this place will be flooded it if it goes "unpunished". I hate to use that word but man, let's be realistic. This place would turn into crap pretty quick. If you think it's bad now, you just wait.

I'd much rather see General shut down before that ever happens. Forums to hang out and talk to your "Z buddies" are a dime a dozen nowadays but the informative ones are a rarity. Save TT.net.

If you think defending quality shops and site sponsors with proven records makes him a whore, then you are the ones with the problem. Stop being bitches. - October 21, 2003 at 06:16 PM
